JBSR undertook staged waterproofing works to this 1200m2 external area as part of the overall refurbishment of Norfolk County Hall

History of the Project
The Norfolk County Hall has been receiving an ongoing scheme of works both on an internal, and lately external basis. As part of this refurbishment, JBSR has undertaken both internal concrete repair and protection works, and subsequently external waterproofing works to the main podium deck.

Project Specifics
The waterproofing scheme of works required the appointment of a Flexcrete approved contractor for the application of the specialist waterproofing materials, and following a competitive tender process JBSR were successful in the award of the scheme of works. The scheme required consideration and planning in conjunction with the client, to ensure minimal disruption to the building occupiers both in terms of access to and from the building, and also noise from the works during the preparation stages of the project. Through planning of noisy works and assistance in identifying works phasing, access to and from the main and side entrances to the building were maintained ensuring safety and usability of the building.

The scheme of works included:

Liaison with the client and demolition contractor to ensure availability of works areas, protection of the works and safety of the building users throughout the project
Following the removal of the in-situ paviours (by others); preparation of the concrete substrate to remove any remaining bitumen, adhesives and or detritus in readiness for the subsequent application of the waterproofing materials
At locations of joints, weak junctions and upstands, JBSR installed Flexcrete Cemprotec 2000S bandage system to provide the necessary waterproofing to these areas whilst accommodating any ongoing and future movement.
Following the above preparations, JBSR then applied the specified Flexcrete Cemprotec Elastic coatings to each area ensuring all works were undertaken in full accordance with the material manufacturers recommendations.

Through utilising JBSR as an approved installer of the Flexcrete range of products, the client on completion of the works will be eligible for a manufacturer's warranty for a period of up to 10 years with the specified system.

Additional Information
Following the ongoing success of these waterproofing works, and previous concrete repair and protection works (internal scheme), JBSR were awarded the external concrete repair and protection works to the lower bike store areas.
